The project also received the \u201c<strong>Public Choice Award<\/strong>\u201d, the result of votes cast by thousands of European citizens.<\/p>\n\n<p><em>\u201cThis double distinction is not only a recognition of the scientific work carried out, but also of the real impact the project is having on communities,\u201d<\/em> said Rui Carrilho Gomes following the announcement. <em>\u201cAGEO shows how science can \u2014 and should \u2014 serve people.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>Funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area programme, the project aims to strengthen the capacity of Atlantic regions to respond to geological hazards such as landslides, earthquakes, floods, and coastal erosion.
