From June 16 to 27, the Instituto Superior Técnico hosted the 5th International Summer Workshop on Urban Design, promoted by FUNDEC and coordinated by Professors Vicente del Rio, Fernando Nunes da Silva, and Ana Morais de Sá.
The workshop was attended by twenty urban planning students (16 from the bachelor’s program and 4 from the master’s program) from California Polytechnic State University, who were dedicated to deepening their understanding of the fundamentals of urban design in the production of sustainable, livable, attractive, and socially just urban spaces.
The program included guided tours of areas of Lisbon that represent different historical periods and planning/design paradigms; studies on the urban qualities of Lisbon and sketching of representative places; sessions with teachers and professionals on various aspects of planning in Portugal and Lisbon; and the development of studies and practical urban design proposals for an area in Lisbon.
A special thanks to all the trainees and trainers who made this edition a real success!
