Professor Rosário Macário, from Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment Department at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, and Vice-President of CiTUA – Centre for Innovation in Territory, Urbanism and Architecture, has been elected President of the World Conference on Transport Research Society (WCTRS), the world’s leading society dedicated to transport research.
WCTRS serves as a leading international forum for the exchange of ideas and projects among researchers, decision-makers, and academics, promoting a multimodal, multidisciplinary, and multisectoral approach to mobility challenges. The society currently brings together around 1,600 members from more than 80 countries and coordinates 42 thematic interest groups operating on a permanent basis.
Professor Rosário Macário’s term will formally begin during the next WCTRS World Conference, to be held in Toulouse, France, from 6 to 9 July 2026. This triennial event brings together the global scientific community in the field of transport.
This election represents international recognition of the DECivil faculty member’s scientific career and strengthens Portugal’s presence in the world’s leading transport research forums.
